City of Farwae (No Locations)

The capitol city of Belgard: Farwae is home to nearly 45k inhabitants and although it is not the largest city in Belgard it is by far the wealthiest in its history and its power.

Also known as “Waes” or Ways, each Dist. of Farwae serves its own purpose and the people who live in those areas can be vastly culturally diverse from those living just down the road. All kinds of folk, people and races from across all of Lyr live together in Farwae.

The Iron Way contains most of the textile and producing areas for the city of Farwae, located in the northwest of the city, a small inlet feeds water into a reservoir at its boundary. Used to separate the Iron Way from the other nicer smelling parts of the city, tanners smithies and all manner of laborers use the reservoir for their mercantile purposes. dwarves, gnomes and humans all work alongside each other in the Iron Way to produce the goods the people of Farwae have grown accustomed to.

The Trade Way is where all of the city's stores, markets, bazzars, and malls all exist. These areas of trade and profit are as bountiful as the city of Farwae is large and almost anything in the known world can be bought here. Large statues dedicated by Guilds and great public works are built here to dazzle the eyes of those wishing to spend their hard earned coin in the Trade Way.

The Green Way is where the city of Farwae has dedicated all of its most precious public spaces and public gardens. Running through the heart of the city along the Trade Way, it curves with the citys shape and extends to just above the South Way. This area of the city is also where the people of Farwae inter their dead in beautiful mausoleums or as statues in the lush public gardens of the city.

The Sword Way is where the city Citadel, Garrison, Prison and many other areas pertaining to the arming, mounting, and dispersal of troops and guards across the city. Here is where the Free Lord of Farwae resides. Each Free City having its own Free Lord or Open Lord, the Free Lords Palace is housed within the Citadel, and this offers him the personal protection and selection of the best and finest of the City Watch to have at his disposal at all times. Some say this also makes the Free Lord the prisoner of the City Watch.

The Sea Way is where the city dock yards ship builders, canal and sea bridge are all located. To enter the Sea Way ships must enter the channel between the shore and Far Isle, under the Sea Bridge and Past the Sea Gate into the city Harbour. The Sea Bridge can accommodate ships with masts up to 210ft above the sea line, any larger and they must moore at the Breach. The Sea Gate is actually a series of iron linked rods that form a giant net that can be dropped from one side of the Sea Bridge. These are cleverly concealed to look like the crenulations of the bridge itself.

The South Way of the city contains many homes and shops for the laboring class of Farwae such as masons, sailors, rope makers, and carpenters. It is also home to the majority of the impoverished and destitute of the city. Many common houses and open kitchens line the streets of the South Ways Rag Quarter. Not even the city watch will tour some of its darker back alleys and roaming street gangs have been deputized to keep the streets "safe".

The Far Isle is not a Way but its own district nonetheless. Upon it's shores are the resting grounds of the extinct House Farwae, the old Lords of Farwae and the Temples to the Gods. On it's western coast is the Farwae Beacon, built upon the ruins of Castle Farwae it serves as a lighthouse for the city as well as a temple to the sea god Sylusar.

Outside of the Ways are smaller communities that have developed within or beyond the city as different peoples have settled into the area over time. “Little Dunland” is huddled along the cities northern walls and is home to many dozens of Halfling families while “Hammer Lane” north of the Tournament Field houses the city's most influential Dwarven families. The “Gilderwae” is an enclave of Nymish socialites and pilgrims who have left the Ettenhold in search of their fortune in the capital of the Free Cities, cutting a home for themselves from the Old Wood of the Far Isle.

All citizens of a Free City abide by The Codex of Laws, or simply "The Code" Each Codex differs from city to city but there are four laws that is always the foundation for all other Laws in the Codex.

The Code

No person may carry a shield, weapon or wear a helm within the walls of a Free City unless a member of the Watch, deputized by the Watch, or to defend its walls.

Unless as a member of the City Watch or as deputized may a person ride a horse, mount or pack animal through the gates of a Free City unbridled from a wagon, cart or carriage.

No person may bastardize, flee from, or take into their own hands the Lord's Justice and all peoples claimed guilty of a crime have the right to a fair trial by their peers.
