Welcome to Madeskaryan! We hope you will enjoy your stay here, regardless if it is brief or long winded, but there are many things you should be warned about before you begin exploring. First, keep a close eye on all your belongings, for many of the locals don't seem to understand the meaning of ownership. Secondly, be aware that this city is highly multicultural, so it is wise to know the differing customs before engaging in serious conversations. Lastly, if you are not staying with a friend, Madame Synalia's is by far the best public lodgings available, but watch your spending. One can run out of power stones very quickly if partaking in the bath facilities and gaze too long upon the beauty of the succubae at work there. If you need similar accommodations yet more modest pricing, there is also the Crazy Pig, but the quality and service reflect the price, and it is critical you watch your belongings especially here. Plenty of rough types pass through the port now and come from the Infernopolis of Agony on the road. Also keep in mind the help here is less... honest, so despite the better pricing, Madame Synalia's remains the better option. If you are in need of any exotic merchandise, Madeskaryan is known for its traveling merchants passing through with all the rarest baubles and goods.
As for our fine city, it has a dense history behind it. Here is where Infernal Master Azathoth first re-encountered his angelic nemesis Marduk, who usurped The Devil's Throne during the angelic occupation. Though he was not defeated here, Marduk and Azathoth's sons, Gryphyn and Legion the Hydra, fought a long battle in the nightly streets. Legion was winning the fight until Marduk stepped in personally to turn the tide. Legion fought them both hard, but was injured in the course of the melee, despite having taken his hydra form. When he thought all was lost, he called to his father telepathically for aid, and luckily Azathoth had recovered enough power to fly and teleport through pockets of shadow over here in a short time from Lilith's Den. Our great Infernal Majesty defeated the mighty Marduk who ran like the coward he was, even leaving his son to his fate. Infernal Mistress Lilith, Legion's mother, was in hot pursuit right behind Azathoth, and tied Gryphyn up with shadow tentacles that came out of the ground. When he was fully grappled, Lilith solidified the shadow into black stone, all but his eyes, right in the courtyard of Castle Madeskaryan. The castle is often off limits to visitors, but if you get a chance to go, near the center of the courtyard when you first come in, you will see Gryphyn for yourself, still decorating it with the pleasant memory of victory. It is taboo to call the statue by its real name which is why it was given the title Lilith's Wrath, and is referred to as such to this day. You will also find the statues of many of the heros that contributed to the reclaiming of the city, including Queen Agravia Infernia of the Thorn Garden and her sisters, as well as Princess Synystry of the Great Halls of Web.
Although Legion was not truly the one to win back Madeskaryan from the Body of Heaven, the locals attributed the victory to him anyway, as he was the one to take it upon himself to win it back on his own, without the help of his father. He was the one to lead the full stealth operation, gather locals who wanted to fight back, including Queen Illusia, who at the time was just a waitress at the Crazy Pig on shift when Legion and his group were hiding out there. Fortunately now the new queen, even then had a mighty sword arm and devastating skill with a bow. She was one of the first to lend her help to the hydra. This is why they were given the honor of becoming king and queen of Madeskaryan. Many of the buildings were destroyed during the fight with Gryphyn though, so their first act was of course to rebuild. Much of the stone paving was smashed, so when Infernal Master Beleth was free, he sent his best tradesmen from the Necrocosm to help, and they paved the streets with the skulls and bones of dead angels. On a final note as concerns history, Azathoth discovered that it was here Infernal Master Beelzebub was captured and contained by the angels, and was able to release him from his patch realm prison. On a lighter note, another highlight is that the port is finally open! Feel free to stay of course, but this means Madeskaryan can now connect with Pandemonium, Necrosys, and Arachnopolis much more easily, as well as any other infernopolis or city that does trade. So if you have any pressing meetings elsewhere, be sure to coordinate your travels.
