The Week of Recovery is a widely anticipated celebration held in the small village of Digger's Rest. A former mining outpost, the quiet, pleasant town is a far cry from the collection of dirt and hovels it originally started as - and at this moment, it's also a far cry from quiet. Cheers and laughter ring out as both locals and visitors engage in merriment, with the town playing host to traveling merchants and entertainment troupes. Bards and street performers look for an empty street corner to sing songs and collect coin, while the plains just outside the village borders are populated by larger acts and their captive audiences. In the tavern, adventurers tell tales and recall their journeys for the curious, and in the market stalls, smiths and traders display their wares with pride. Mercenaries trade stories at their camps, and every now and then, some swap shifts with the stationed royal guard as payment for village's hospitality.
As night falls, the daily visitors have already made their way home, and those staying longer make conversation in their tents and by their fires. Some locals, descendants of the miners who laid the foundation for this ever growing settlement, look out at the memorial in the middle of the market. The stone statue, depicting a dwarf and two humans using picks on a large boulder, glows softly in the moonlight -- an eternal tribute to those who brought prosperity to the kingdom in the past, and were given prosperity in return. As the first and second nights pass with celebration continuing at full force, the sun rises as a slew of peculiar characters edge toward a fateful future.
