Sorros Empire
Over 1200 years ago, the Sorros empire ruled the entire continent of Leona. A society of Elven beings who valued the use and practice of magic to such an extent that those without magical abilities or knowledge were seen as being outcast. The Sorros empire saw those of non-elven heritage as being outsiders and often enslaved many of the other races during their rule.
It was never clear what caused the empire to fall, though many stories passed down mention a period where all magic was lost.
The Draxen Imperial
After the fall of the Sorros Empire, the Draxen Imperial rose. Claiming to be the true heirs to the pieces left behind by the Sorros Empire, the Draxen Imperial are very much similar in that they value magic above all else. They are seen as being xenophobic but have opened their borders to other races with magical abilities. Similar to their predecessor, they do not worship gods but see magic as being the one true thing in nature. Much of their society is seen as highly organized and bureaucratic, often secretive unless you belong to the inner circles.
In recent years, the Draxen Imperial has founded many deep expeditions into the Northern Badlands, which has been seen as a waste of resources and expenditures by the common folks. The reasoning along with the results of these expeditions are shrouded in bureaucratic paperwork and secrecy. There are many whispers that the Inner Circle has stumbled upon something left behind by the Sorros Empire and this is the reason why the expeditions exist.
The Inner Circle represent those who rule the Imperial, though their name and numbers are not revealed to the general public, it is said that they are the most powerful magic wielders in all the lands.
The Osarian Empire
Many hundred years after the great collapse, the human tribes and kingdoms have banded together to form one empire under the banner of Osairia. The humans are direct descendants of those who were enslaved by the Sorros Empire. Those belonging to the Osairian Empire worship the four Gods and believe that it was the return of their Gods which sparked the downfall of Sorros rule.
Emperor Raimund vi Rayet the 2nd has not been seen for many years but his rule is still being carried out and in recent years been enforced by the Order of the Undying Light. The Order is a group seen as being very fanatical and almost unforgiving in their judgement of those who go against the teaching of the four especially that of necromancy.
The Order of the Undying Light is lead by Grandmaster Annen Adler, better known as The Red Queen due to her often being covered head to toe in the blood of her foes. Lately, the Order has been pushing its influences south into the many city-states in hopes of converting many to their religion.
The Free Merchant States
To the south lies a very fertile and resource abundant land where many different city-states have rose to power. Through mutual trade whether from distant lands or nearby and lasting allegiances, these cities have prospered. Gold is what rules these lands and the worth of someone is measured in the amount of gold they own. Many different races live in the southern lands and are welcomed no matter their background.
Current:
The last 20 years have seen a truce between the rivalling nations of Draxen and Osairia as all that stands between them is a vast desert which makes crossing difficult. They both look to the south as they attempt to exert their influences and agenda in hopes of winning over the different city-states.
