This is an Amnian settlement in Maztica, from Maztica's Lost Treasure, a pirate campaign I am writing, and it doubles as my entry for the Watercolor Cities contest. Follow @trekiros on Twitter for news & updates on this campaign!
Districts:
- Copperton: in Amnian culture, social classes are named after metals of increasing rarity and value. Copper is at the bottom of the social ladder. This is the district for peasants & workers.
- Diamond Docks: This district contains private docks and warehouses where merchant fleets load and unload their cargo. The security is tight, but every now and then, an ambitious crew tries to sneak in and make a quick fortune.
- Marble Campus: Those slightly higher on Amn's social ladder, but not high enough to live on Melsarch Hill, tend to buy fancy looking houses in the district known as the Marble Campus. Most people here are desperate to show wealth and grandeur, but it's often smoke and mirror.
- Melsarch Hill: Away from the dangers of the waterfront and the bay, this is where rich merchant families tend to settle.
- Sune Street: This whole district, named after the street which runs through it from North to South, has been bought by Primore's Five Cathedrals, to act as a residential district for its clergy.
- Traders' Bay: This ward is where most stores, restaurants and guilds can be found. Its location, right next to the Diamond Docks,
- Waterfront: This district hosts a long row of public docks, and dozens of inns and taverns where thousands of sailors, fishermen and privateers rest between two trips out at sea.
Landmarks: (each of these has a battlemap and a side quest associated with them in Maztica's Lost Treasure)
- Waukeen's Academy to Unbridled Ambition: The white building in the Marble Campus is an academy which doubles as a cathedral dedicated to the worship of Waukeen. Students enlisted there learn the skills they will need to become ruthless businessmen and businesswomen.
- The Red Knight's Castle to Glorious Conquest: The small island situated between the Marble Campus and Traders' Bay is home to a training facility for military personnel, as well as the mansion of Primore's governor, and the city's main prison. It doubles as a cathedral to the Red Knight, the goddess of strategy.
- Asmodeus' Vaults to Eggregious Bureaucracy: At the northern tip of Traders' Bay lies a strange obsidian building acting both as a bank, a governmental archive. Anything related in one way or another to paperwork, including the edition and claiming of bounty posters, takes place in this obsidian maze. It doubles as a cathedral to Asmodeus, the devil prince of indulgence, ambition and paperwork.
- Moradin's Bridge to Art and Tradition: The bridge linking Copperton to Melsarch Hill is actually a cathedral dedicated to the worship of Moradin. However, the two halves of this bridge are completely separated: on the Copperton side, workers come every morning to a shipyard and workshop, while on the Melsarch Hill side, rich merchants bring their children to a museum where Amn's many spoils of war are on display. Only the priests are allowed to travel from one half of the bridge to the other.
- The Raven Queen's Obelisk to Ultimate Destiny: In the middle of the city's graveyard, at the northern end of Sune Street, is a 300ft tall marble obelisk dedicated to the worship of the Raven Queen. At its base lies a staircase going down, hundreds of feet into the ground, and a sign which reads "Property of the Cowled Wizards. Civilians who enter for any reason will be slain."
