The City of Donbeth

The regional capital of Beithshire, in the Kingdom of Canmore.

Donbeth is the newest of the kingdom's five cities, at only 350 or so years old. It was begun as the headquarters of King Kenneth Canmore II's push to conquer the Northern region, and built on a low-lying hill on the flat, fertile land by the Lake of Beith, next to the natural harbor at the mouth of the River Donnie. The city hill may stand only 30 feet above the surrounding plain, but with 30 foot walls above that and towers 15 feet higher still, it forms an impressive fortess even so.

The Earl of Beith is a staunch ally of the reformist king Malcom Canmore III, having known each other since childhood. He supports as many of the king's reforms as he can, but his Shire butts up against wilderness to the North and the hostile kingdom of Gorlois to the West, so he must also keep his conservative border barons happy. Currently, Beithshire's economy is predominantly agricultural, but that is changing with manufacturing and blackrock mining growing in importance.

Donbeth is famous throughout the kingdom for Monksfoot Gin and for the giant pike that lurk in Finnan Lake. Smoked Pike and Cheddar pies are the local common pub and street-cart food; they are served as a delicacy in the capital, Tullisport.
