The Starlit city (Night)
History
The great city of Tal Elena gets her name from the silver coins gifted to the bay they call home. Generations of tithes make the water gleam. Thieves are believed to incur bad luck.
Tal Elena Started as a fishing village over a thousand years ago, The shallow bay is protected from ocean storms, and the knife-like rocks and reefs around it protect it from outsiders. Lack of land prompted the elves to build out into the shallows of the caldera instead of on the steep forested slopes of the mountain.
As the city grew it became a center for trade, and the vast space it had for expansion let it grow unhindered for years until nearly the entire shallows of the caldera were filled With an increase in population came the need for more freshwater, An ancient king dammed up The Timid River (Kaureaduin) and built an aqueduct system inside the city's walls that feeds into raised pools all around the city. These pools are often the center of commerce for a district making mini-town squares about Tal Elena. The power of the water has since been harnessed for mills and water-powered infrastructure.
The raised white stone buildings coil into channels each layer of wall providing new housing and workspaces as the city grows. many windows look out onto the water below lattices of foliage grow grapes and herbaceous plants.
Tal Elena is the last Vestige of the once-great Moon Isles
