Scattered throughout the cosmos are science and repair facilities with little to no defenses as they are mobile and hard to track down. The human workers take refuge in the lower sections when under attack and the repair robots are all non-combat, making it easy for a skilled crew to just fly in and take what they want as long as they are quick.
