Unlike the modest yet growing city of Madeskaryan at the edge of the Umbra Pit, Old Madeskaryan was an Infernopolis before the angelic occupation. Upon the destruction of Queen Madeskaryan and the erection of the Tower of Shadows, it quickly fell to ruin. Although Infernal Master Azathoth had no love for any of these towers which were all constructed through the slavery of devils, when he retrieved his book of shadows, then in turn repelled the Body of Heaven from the Infernum Infinitus, he realized the tower's sheer height could be put to practical use. His book of shadows was being kept by a seraphim named Serenia, who had a body that glowed a harmful searing light, along with the angels in her service. Azathoth defeated her with the help of Queen Agravia Infernia and her sisters, but instead of destroying her, he piked her at the very top of the tower. Though the new city of Madeskaryan does not yet have a port, hopeful plans are on the way to build one, and the light baring seraphim at the top of the tower is anticipated to serve a new purpose as a lighthouse beacon in the very near future. Thankfully lord Azathoth found a spell to make Serenia's light benign. Seeing as the bright white light is also kind of annoying to the average devil, lord Azathoth has also replaced the once white stained glass window with a red one ans set up a massive brazier on the inside. Sadly, as far as the old infernopolis goes, it is still overrun by the shadow spiders that live in the Sanguine Root Forest. The mines here are far from depleted, so some excavation groups are deployed to go there, but the ruins are still a dangerous place. Despite having ridden the Body of Heaven's presence from here, there is still a black fog that remains all around the city. Since the angelic occupation and the neglect of old Madeskaryan's walls, the moat once constructed around the city has flooded the lowest urban layer, now home to countless shadow serpents to make things worse. Lord Azathoth is quite against killing animals, so decided to not rebuild the old city and continue focusing on the construction of the new one.
