The Siege of Silverstone Keep
Duke Haldren of Silverstone, a seasoned ruler known for his unyielding resolve, had prepared for this moment for years. His castle, perched high upon a rugged cliff, had withstood countless threats before. For three long weeks, the attackers had surrounded the keep, cutting off supplies and battering at its morale, but Haldren remained confident. His foresight had ensured vast stockpiles of food, and a deep well within the caves beneath the fortress provided an endless supply of fresh water. The defenders, though weary, could endure for months if needed.
The enemy, however, was growing desperate. Their forces thinned with every skirmish, their resources dwindling. But as the first rays of dawn illuminated the blood-soaked battlefield, the grim news came. Guards atop the walls rushed to the duke, their faces pale.“They’re bringing trebuchets, my lord,” one stammered. “Two of them. Massive. Powerful. They’ll be ready by nightfall.”
The words sent a chill through the war room. The defenders’ own catapults could not match the range of these mighty siege engines. By sunset, the once impenetrable walls of Silverstone would be under relentless bombardment, and the balance of the siege would tip irrevocably in the attackers’ favor.Haldren wasted no time. He summoned his most trusted captains and warriors, forming an elite strike force. “We will not sit idle while our doom is constructed before our eyes,” he declared. His voice, firm yet laced with urgency, echoed in the chamber. “Tonight, under the cover of darkness, you will slip beyond the walls. Your mission is clear: destroy those trebuchets before they can rain destruction upon us.
”He paused, his gaze sweeping over the gathered warriors. “The trebuchets are your primary target—they must be destroyed at all costs. But if you see an opportunity, wreak as much havoc as you can. A short distance from the siege engines lies their battering ram and siege tower. If these can be destroyed, we will cripple their plans further.
”Haldren’s voice lowered, almost to a growl, as he leaned forward. “And if fortune smiles upon you, look to the general’s tent. General Valrik, the commander of this assault, is likely there. A pompous fool, but dangerous nonetheless. Should you manage to eliminate him, it will throw their entire army into chaos. Do so, and I will reward you beyond your wildest dreams.
”The room fell silent, the weight of the mission settling upon the assembled warriors. They were the finest in Silverstone, seasoned veterans and brave souls willing to risk everything. Each of them knew the dangers—an attack on the siege camp would be perilous, with no guarantee of return.
As the sun dipped below the horizon and darkness cloaked the land, the strike force prepared for their mission. Clad in blackened armor to blend with the shadows, they slipped through a hidden passage beneath the castle, emerging into the cold night air. Ahead, the enemy camp sprawled across the plain, lit by flickering torchlight and teeming with soldiers. The massive trebuchets stood tall in the distance, fully assembled and ready to unleash their devastating power at any moment.
The fate of Silverstone Keep rested on this desperate gambit. The defenders watched from the walls, their breaths held as their finest warriors disappeared into the night. The siege camp, alive with the sounds of preparation and anticipation, had no idea that the hunters were coming.
This would be a night to remember—one that would either secure Blackstone’s survival or seal its doom.

*Note on Night Variants:
This map offers four distinct night-time variations (Legendary Knight Tier) for added atmosphere and challenge: Clear Night, Foggy Night, Rainy Night, and Rainy Foggy Night. In the last two variants, the campfires are extinguished, casting the camp in near-complete darkness. In the Rainy Foggy Night variant, visibility is greatly reduced due to the thick fog, and the Dungeon Master will have the opportunity to decide how the weather conditions affect the attackers. The fog and extinguished fires create a perfect environment for stealth or surprise, but also add an element of uncertainty, making it a true test of the party's luck and adaptability.
