The Rifted Realm: Evoltide

Hello there and welcome to Evoltide! Evoltide is currently a work-in-progress fantasy world I'm creating for fun. Although I intend for it to be a fully-fledged book, someday, it is currently available for reading in story-driven scripts over on my reddit (masterlist linked below)! After the link readers will find the points-of-interest Evoltide has to offer with little descriptions and chunks of lore.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Embaxi-Lu’os: A kingdom bordering the eastern seas, this grand state is one of the largest of Evoltide. Mainly focused on major trade and military. Home to a special group of knights able to transform their bodies from that of man to beast they are called The Nameless Knights. Though it is not just beasts that reside here, for a cursed royal also calls this kingdom, raised up by prejudice, their home.

-Dragon Torn Ravine: A large split in the earth running to crystal caverns below. It’s unknown why this split is so large, perhaps a dragon once called the caves below home? Many legends abound on the reason for this phenomena.

-Mount Skymore: The largest mountain found in Evoltide. Geographically it does not make sense, leaving many to speculate that it must be the work of ancient magic. Others say this catastrophically large mountain must be an ancient beast sleeping below, covered by nature as it so deeply slumbers.

Asgarna: A smaller but mighty kingdom, Asgarna prides itself on stepping away from the dependency on the magic that governs this world. They once went to war with Embaxi-Lu’os and greatly lost, harboring a deep-seeded hatred even to this day.

-Old Asgarna: The original standing of Asgarna was lost in the war against Embaxi-Lu’os, since then the kingdom moved further along its territory and resettled close to the rocky shores they now call home.

Luinem: A fortress of wanderers, the people who occupy this stronghold are devoted worshippers of The Red Garden, the only individuals who treasure both the Garden and the Shifting Woods. An eclectic grouping, often shunned from other societies.

-The Red Garden: Plants simply shouldn't be red; yet they are, here in The Red Garden. Legends abound on why this place is touched a haunting red but the most likely story is that a mad mage from long ago fled past the mountains border after committing a heinous act, when he emerged on the other side the blood on his hands stained the forest in a sickening red color.

-The Shifting Woods: A dark scape of woodlands, shrouded in constant fog and bordering The Garden. These woods whisper strange secrets and it feels unwelcoming being here as trees seem to almost move independently. Many claim that this is where the species later known as “Shifters” or Imon’gai first emerged, perhaps that is why it has such a bad rap.

Remnants of Qenules: Once a grand province, Qenules was a fierce fighting nation bound by deep oaths and warriors who knew no mercy. Nowadays it sits, desolate and empty aside from a small fortress built just behind The Last Defense. The remaining people of this kingdom now act as a group of hunters known as the Umbra Vanguard. Primarily stalking, tracking, and hunting down Shifters with the sole purpose of destroying the magical duel-soul beings for good, whether human looking or not.

-The Last Defense: A grand wall spanning the entire length of the edge of The Shifting Woods, built by the residents of Qenules before its fall as a defense against the unnatural forest and its supposed residents. The wall still stands, partly broken from time, but eerie as ever.

Sol’Risa: A small town located just a little ways from the equator, the people here are quiet and unassuming, straying far from the politics of the larger states. They trade only with Asgarna, getting only what they need for a given season, no more and no less.

Tasruryn: A vicious kingdom of mages, oracles, and brutish fighters. Originally a group of nomads, the people of Tasruryn eventually settled down in an impact crater to the north. Regarded as an intensively defended state, the crater they call home is flanked by monumental chains that tie down three floating islands. They are said to work tightly with the Umbra Vanguard.

-Tasruryn Shifters Prison: On the largest island of the three sits a gigantic prison, one made for the sole purpose of capturing and forever detaining Shifters to use in slave trade and to siphon magic from. No one gets in or out without explicit permission. Any who tried to escape have failed greatly, for the winds whip violently enough to send bound convicts flying from the edge and plummeting to their deaths below in the violent waves.

Seavirin: A tiny town on an unnamed island, Seavirin is known for excessive amounts of liquor and as a pirate safe haven. Despite that they regularly trade with Asgarna, Embaxi-Lu’os, and Brelux.

-Seastack Cradle: An area of open sea littered with seastacks. This section of ocean is warm and calm, often used for trade routes and travel.

Brelux: One of the only known cities in the furthest reaches of the north, Brelux is exceptionally mysterious as none of its residents leave the ice-laced tundras they have settled in.

Teoris: A minor kingdom settled between Tasruryn and Qenules, this kingdom is strangely located on a small outcropping of land in the middle of a giant lake. Though they often stray from direct warfare, Teoris attempts to intercept caravans from the Umbra Vanguard to rescue any shifters they have kidnapped before they can make it to Tasruryn.

The Uncertain Depths: A vast expanse of ocean located where the waters swirl from warm to freezing cold, many sailors and ships have gone missing here, whether from the weather or because beasts lurk beneath the surface not a soul knows. All that wanders into these waters never returns and disappears without a trace, not even remains of ships are left.

-Mount Onyx: A sprawling volcano located in The Uncertain Depths, the waters here are unnaturally warm, more so than they should be. The volcano itself is unstable but littered with rich metals, capable of crafting the finest of weapons. Only a few have managed to get on the island and return safely.

The Cursed Tides: Located at the midpoint where The Red Garden and The Shifting Woods met, mainly claim these tides must be cursed. Strange things happen to those who dare venture out on these waters, stories of ghosts, howling wails, and mysterious shadowy figures are nothing new. Although the people of Luinem seem well versed with these waters, hardly frightened by them.

The Rifted Sea: The main ocean nestled between all the lands that make up Evoltide, commonly regarded as the Divine Waters. All who enter these waters are guaranteed a safe journey. It is the most commonly traveled section of water and most well known by all the people of Evoltide. It may be split between all the lands but it remains forgiving and equally just.

Worlds Wall: The largest collection of mountains in Evoltide, Worlds Wall is a sprawling range of mountains that divide the unused land Embaxi-Lu’os has claimed from the frigid lands of the far north. Legends say that the World Keeper used his own spine to become this mountain range.

Moons Fell Zone: Eons ago legends say that two moons fell into Evoltide, crashing into the lands and creating vast craters. From one crater sprang a behemoth of a tree that the goddess of the wild carved her arrows from. In the other crater, a hill-sized crystal was left, vibrantly glowing to the heartbeat of the great tree. Together the two became known as the conservations of magic, regularly cycling the magic imbued into Evoltide by the gods, and keeping it stable. Fables tell of a Great Passage, when all the shifters would begin migrating to the Moons Fell Zone for unknown reasons. Vibrant auroras would cover the sky, homing beacons to follow even in daylight. Nowadays the island remains quiet, once the Great Passage occurred yearly, now it has last happened over 2000 years ago. Should the island realign and beam its auroras to the skies once more, it would be a once in a life-time event, and an even more dangerous one for those who carry within them duel-souls.
