Dwarven tunnel (before Goblin attack)

The story of this Mountain pass is as follows. A small but wealthy group/family of dwarves decided to create a home in the mountain to mine precious gemstones. They had discovered a rich vein of gemstones in this area and saw a chance to do what Dwarves do. Create a mine and live underground. After establishing a small mine and living area, they then decided to create a tunnel going all the way through. This tunnel created a significant shortcut for many travellers and traders using the mountain roads and trails. The regular traders passing through meant that they could sell the gems and crafted jewellery. They also make a tidy profit charging people a small toll for using the tunnel. The Tunnel is just large enough to fit a horse and cart through. They are able to offer travellers a small dormitory and server some basic food and drink. Traveling the mountain roads is cold and exhausting. Its quite common for people to take a bit of time to rest and warm up when inside. Often they will stay overnight to avoid traveling the maintains in the dark.

This small mine is Home to 9 hardy Dwarves. They have a head of the family/group leader who oversees the operation. The next most senior Dwarf is the forge master, an expert smith and fine craftsman. the rest of the dwarves do whatever is required. They could be mining, helping at the forge, cooking, cleaning, escorting travelers through the tunnel and taking payment for the toll.

All the dwarves are strong and hardy, well armored and equipped they are quick to defend their home and ferocious warriors if the situation calls for it. They are sometimes bothered by Goblins in the local area. But so far they have been no match for the steadfast Dwarves and unable to get past the masterfully crafted heavy stone doors.

as they gain wealth and influence they expect to attract more of their kinsfolk, and have plans to expand the mine when then do.

This Dwarven pass includes:

Small mine, workshop and forge (including the forge masters quarters) to the North.

Personal living quarters for the leader, dormitory, kitchen, pantry, common area and the alter room for prayers to the south. They also have a supply of fresh running water here.

large sturdy tunnel offering travelers a shortcut through the mountain. Travelers and guests are welcome to rest in a small common room and can even pay for a bed, as long as they don't mind sharing the room with other travellers. Gests are only allowed in these areas, the rest of the mine and living area is invitation only.
