Oscana

Oscana is a small, but wealthy country positioned on the rocky shore of the ocean. Their location affords them control over trade routes to the inland countries. In addition, they produce luxury goods such as silk and jewelry. The lower, working-class mainly consists of fisherman and dock workers. To protect their ocean border, Oscana has a well-trained, formidable navy. Oscana’s ruthless leaders have used the navy to choke off trade to those neighboring countries who dare to threaten them. While the view of the water is beautiful, especially from the ocean-side castle, the cliffs at the seaside are very dangerous to the unskilled sailor and those on land. Thunderstorms, strong winds, and harsh winters make it difficult for the country to produce its own food. During the winter months, they rely solely on trade to keep their people fed. Oscana’s land borders are dangerous to navigate, and the terrain makes it difficult to invade from Ryhule.

Capital City is the location of our court; this is where our game takes place. It is located at the mouth of the mouth of the largest river, and on the opposite side of the river sits Oscana's largest naval base. Between the castle and the naval base, a chain can be raised to defend the bay against attackers from the sea.

The Duchy of Westerly is located directly south of the Capital, and is densely forested. Their main industry is in lumber, although some of their lands are capable of growing crops, they have a short growing season that farmers must make the most of. They are better known for their markets, considered more accessible than those in the Capital, Westerly is a hub of trade with southern countries.

The East Marches are located directly on the border with Ryhule, although they are largely protected by the towering mountains that form a natural border. Dead Man's Pass is the only place the border can be crossed aside from the river itself, and is made up of a series of treacherous mountain caves that honeycomb through the northern mountains. With frequent storms in the area, it is considered impossible to bring an army through the Dead Man's Pass, although the Marquess still maintains a very defensible town in the area just in case. The People of the East Marches are famously wary of strangers. Their industry consists mainly of fishing and some ranching, but the East Marches most valuable export is soldiers and sailors. Most men from the East Marches will enlist with Oscana's military in one form or another, and they have produced many famed war heroes.

The North Earldom is the northernmost province of Oscana. It is wealthy because of the rich mineral and ore deposits found in their mountains. Their exports of gems and jewels allow the artisans in Oscana to create their beautiful jewelry, prized throughout the world. They are also famed for their forges, where they create some of the best armour and weaponry in the world.

The Swamplands are located in the south, and aside from having the warmest climate in all of Oscana, they are considered a very foreboding place to outsiders. Their main exports include clay for use by Oscana's artisans, and animal hides produced by their hunters. While the Swamplands are mainly able to sustain themselves with hunting, they do not produce enough meat for market, and instead their hunters focus on procuring rare and luxurious hides that sell for a high price. This is also where Oscanan Silk Worms are raised, the fibers they produce sent to Westerly and the Capital where they are spun into luxurious fabrics.

Fort Vidar sits directly on the river that connects Oscana and Ryhule, and controls anyone coming and going from Ryhule. There is a massive river gate here that is always guarded, and the Oscanan navy patrols the river on both sides. It is the most fortified position in all of Oscana, and because of the location, it is extremely difficult to lay siege to.

Rivergate is Oscana's second most important military installment. It guards the river leading to the Capital, and it also maintains the smaller forts and lookouts situated along the river. Should Fort Vidar ever fall, Rivergate would be the most important defensive line between Ryhule and the Capital.
