Welcome to Nehekhara! A land 3 years in the making, born from my obsession with death and Egypt and a number of touchstones:
- Eyes that are already familiar with Warhammer Fantasy will no doubt have noticed the familiar name of The Great Land, and the main cities that dominate the golden desert. I was/am/forever will be obsessed with the Tomb Kings, the ancient and glorious civilization that met a gruesome end and awakened many ages after their fall to find their paradise shattered and their immortality ruined. This was such a fascinating premise to me, but I couldn't stop wandering what their lives would have been like before their calamitous end.
- Some eyes would have no doubt seen a few elements from Dune. It was an irresistible (and obvious) draw in terms of world-building and inspiration and it served in creating an intricate ecosystem and a fascinating lore behind why this desert is such a paradox of desolation and life.
- The most well hidden influence is, however, the OG D&D world, Oerth itself! When I began to think about this land I was playing a campaign set in the Flanaess and my DM back then showed us the map of Oerth. 'The Holy Kingdom of Erypt' looked like the perfect sandbox for me to explore my Tomb Kings obsession. It helped that both Oerth and the Warhammer Fantasy worlds draw heavy and clear inspiration from real life ancient empires, kingdoms, and myths. Overlapping the two has worked wonderfully so far, and I have plans to expand in other corners of the Oerth, time permitting!
