Over two thousand years ago, the learned mages of the elf city, Cloudcrest, completed their greatest work, and severed their homes from the earth itself, leaving only a few outbuildings on the remaining karst peaks. Life in Cloudcrest goes on much as it did before - music, art, education, and sorcery the order of the day, for most. The elven landlords collect taxes from the mostly-human villages in the valleys and foothills below, usually in the form of grain and fish. They trade some of these products with the rest of the world, via airship.
