Inspired in part by a certain campaign after a campaign, this battlemap is a small forest clearing with something amiss. This was built for an encounter with level 5-8 characters but by all means tweak as you like.

Your adventuring party may come across this clearing whilst following a trail through a forest, it is a simple setup of 5 pillars each 3 foot tall representing the colours of Chromatic Dragons, carved into these pillars is the relief of a dragon head. At the rear of each pillar is a few steps allowing The pillars surround a single large rock with a locked chest and hourglass upon it. Inscribed on the rock are the words 'To dance the dance of death with the kings of the sky is to know true valor.'

Upon standing atop a pillar, the eyes of the carved dragon of that pillar glow, the hourglass then turns giving 15 seconds for the rest of the party to decide to either climb atop their own pillar or not. At the end of the 15 seconds any activated pillars (regardless if the party member dismounted) flies 100 feet into the air and summons an Illusory Chromatic Dragon (Either Wyrmlings with hp boosted or reduced to 60 or Young if you really want a challenge for higher level players with180 hp). The Dragons are summoned 15ft behind each pillar as the crow flies from the central pillar and will attack the player atop their matching coloured pillar as a priority.

When the illusory Dragon is killed, it disappears and the corresponding platform begins to descend at a rate of 10ft per round, allowing the party member on that specific pillar to potentially jump to another with an appropriate athletics or acrobatics check. Any party members sharing a platform have disadvantage on dexterity saving throws and at no point may a platform hold more than two medium creatures.

Once all the pillars have been activated and the dragons defeated (the party does not have to do them all at the same time!) the chest pops open revealing some hopefully very good loot!

(For my players it was a keystone needed to travel between realms, a scroll of permanent find familiar usable by anyone and a couple of levelled loot items)
